A Sample Article?

This afternoon, I found an advertisement on our daily email news sheet for columnists and such for the university student newspaper for next semester. Curious, I sent an email inquiring for an application. Now, I have been asked to submit a sample article. I can turn it in after I am finished for the semester, so I will leave it till after I am finished with my finals next Tuesday. (Then, I shall consume myself in my scholarship application for Hungary and, now, writing this article.) As I columnist, I would pretty much get to write about whatever I want, which is pretty sweet. The question is what to choose to write about for my sample article...

I also have a feeling that I may end up stumped on article topics, writing every week, but we'll see where the wind blows...Thy will be done...

  1. Samantha,

If you were seeking topic ideas from your readers, I have two rules for you. The first is write about what you know, and the second is find out what the other columnists are writing and try to do something different from them unless it is something about which you feel passionately. Music does seem like a natural subject on which you could write, and you could keep readers of your campus journal informed about area happenings in the realm of classical music. Your vocabulary suffers nothing, so you have little or nothing to improve in that department, and you have a personal quality to your blog writing, which is most desirable for informal articles. If you decide to continue with this new pursuit, for I know the editorial staff would accept your work (They would be foolish not to do so.), I wish you every success.
