Let's see... As I said previously, the week before I got back into a class schedule, I stole away for a few days at home. It was so good to get away! I won't be back, again, until Thanksgiving break, which would have made for a very long time without a break! An entire committee came to get me at the airport - Mom, Dad, and little sister Becca. We stopped for food along the way home, and our waitress was basically Zooey Deschanel. haha!
Xander turned 4 that weekend. He's such a crazy kid! My visit was supposed to be a "surprise," but the little rascal found out! Can't keep anything from a 4 y/o! However, his sense of time is still a little askew, so I'm not certain he realized exactly when I'd be there. We got home from the airport very late, and I awoke the next morning to a little boy in my face saying, "AH! Aunt Sammy's here! I so glad you're home!" Crazy kid! We spent the weekend playing "Chutes & Ladders," making pirate spy glasses from paper towel rolls, had 2 campfires, went shopping/running errands, watched Little Einsteins and Octonauts...
| He was showing off his "tattoo" to me. Oh, dear... |
Oh, I almost forgot one of the most important parts! When we finally got back to the house the night I arrived home, my dad whipped out an early birthday present for me...A BOTTLE OF PALINKA! Um. Awesome! After my trip to Hungary two years ago, he accidentally broke the bottle I had brought back and felt so bad that he's been trying to get hold of a new one ever since. (He does work for a chick that is dating a Hungarian, so they got it for him when they were there this summer.) Thanks, Dad! :)
Then when the weekend of fun and festivities were over, it was time to be flung back to the East Coast to rock and roll into the school year. My travels back certainly weren't dull, either! Approximately 4 hours of sleep before having to be at the airport at 7am, an hour delay on the runway, layover in Philly (one of the worst airports to be routed through!), someone pulling the fire alarm when I was supposed to be boarding a plane. I do have to say, though, that I love traveling and exploring new places, but there is something comforting and settling in knowing exactly how things work whenever you get to a particular city. Also, traveling on Labor Day probably wouldn't be my first choice of travel days! haha!
Which brings me to 9am the following morning when I was back sitting in class. First voice lesson of the year the following day, where we jumped right into the deep end with recital music. No dilly-dallying with repertoire this semester! (In fact, I have so much rep that I have no idea how it's all going to get learned in the next couple of months! GAH!) And then...my piano proficiency exam the day after that...
That was like being in an interrogation room. The lights were basically off except for one bright lamp shining from behind me onto the keys of the piano, so they could watch my every move. It was my voice coach and another guy administering the exam. I was nervous but was still acting myself, asking a hundred questions and being a bit of a bubbly smart aleck. The guy I didn't know was trying to act all intimidating and authoritative, but I saw right through it, and I am pretty certain my voice coach thought the whole scene highly entertaining because the other guy was not really amused with me. haha!
It took nearly a week to get the results, but my voice coach knew since that moment what sections of the exam I had passed. (There are four sections that must be passed before graduation.) He, of course, smiled and flaunted that he had that information to me but refused to tell me until the official emails were sent from the dean's office. AGH! I mean, I knew I had to of passed at least three of the sections because any mistakes I made were extremely minor, but I was still up in the air about the scales portion because my shaking hand slipped a few times. And the results.....
I PASSED EVERY SECTION!!!! THE WHOLE DARN THING!!! I win. ;) hehe! Now, I can get my master's degree...provided I do well in my actual classes...
Classes are super intense this year...only two weeks in, and I am already behind on my work. Not cool. I feel like being a music student must be in the same vein of workload as a med student! haha! It's been going alright, but I've had nonstop information being thrown at me for the past two weeks straight with barely any time to breathe. They've been over-scheduling me at work, which has been running me ragged. Practice hours are so short right now, and that just makes me absolutely want to cry. Walking into a rehearsal unprepared is completely unacceptable and cannot happen! (Also, I am fairly certain that all the new people think I'm just crazy! haha!)
So, I made a "day off," cancelling work today and thankfully being able to find a replacement. Slept in today, made pancakes, watched a bit of TV, and once I finish this, I'll be hitting the books, planner, and music, so that this week can begin on the right foot with me sane and in happy spirits.
As for my birthday last week, Edwin came over, and we went to lunch. Then, we headed to the Boston Commons and the harbor to meander around for a few hours before meeting up with some others in the North End for dinner and cannolis. :) A relaxing day with good company.
Now, for that homework and tidying up the explosion that has happened in my apartment... Any volunteers to fix this?
